  • Presidents Report

The Presidents Report was read by President Garbus who thanked us for coming to the meeting this evening.

·        Boardwalk: The work on is moving along very well. Some of the decking is already done. I hope the weather is not too bad and maybe they will finish this year. The boardwalk will not be lit, as it will close at the same time as Silver Sands, at sundown.

·        Enhancement Committee: The chain link fence is down and the new wooden fence is almost done. Looks great! Sidewalks from Tudor to Fire Gallery will be done in Spring 2011. Discussion of Simon Lake preservation following the closing of the school as a potential alternative to the development plans previously reviewed for Stowe Barn.

·        Officers: New secretary, Deb Kendell, will not be able to be the secretary this year. We have another volunteer, Meghan Rabuse, who we will nominate under new business.

·        Halloween Walk: The Walnut Beach Creamery had another successful celebration. Thank you Susan Patrick and to all who helped her.

·        Donations: We have to honor our promises to St. Gabriel’s and the Fire House Gallery. Once Walnut Beach Festival accounting is completed, we will determine the amount.

·        Publicity: We need a publicity chairperson.

·        Holiday Party: We need to talk about next month’s party that we have instead of a December meeting. Susan Patrick volunteered to chair party and mail out invitations.

A Motion was made to accept all reports as read, seconded and approved.

  • Committee Reports

·        Webmaster: Marty Lippman, WBA Webmaster, indicated the October minutes were posted, donations were being accepted for Troops Overseas through November 15th, and that he would be updating the officer contacts with the newly elected officer information.

·        Beautification Committee: Dave Cameron asked that we offer our thanks to Connie Henshaw and Ralph Harrison for WBA park and building clean up.

·        Block Watch: No updates.

·        Membership: Elvira Prokoski, Chairperson, was out sick. Marty Lippman read her report on her behalf. He reported that three applications were received since the last meeting. One renewal was received at the meeting.

New Members: Ralph Harrison, Rick Fraulo, and Frederic Detar
Renewal: Joe Liscinsky

Elvira needed to clarify some of the contact information for these individuals. Marty Lippman indicated he would send the updated membership list to Susan Patrick, for the holiday invitation mailing, and to the new Secretary.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Summer Concert Series Committee

The committee held its first meeting November 1st. Susan Patrick has recruited Harlowe as exclusive sponsor. Marty Lippman is looking into the required permitting for the Concert Series. The dates selected for the series are the Sundays leading up to and after the WBA Festival: July 24th, July 31st and August 14th. One permit will be required for the series and will be issued in the new year. The Committee is also looking into producing promotional WBA items to sell at the concert series.

  • Boys & Girls Club

Ralph Harrison provided clarification on the status of the Milford Boys & Girls Club. The Club is not breaking away from National organization; however, due to the Milford chapter’s previous lack of leadership, it has been temporarily overseen by the Naugatuck Valley chapter. It has been undergoing its own 501(c) process (securing own funding, insurance, etc.), which is nearing completion, at which point it will separate from the Naugatuck Valley chapter.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Election of New Secretary

Meghan Rabuse was nominated and subsequently elected as Secretary of WBA.

  • WBBA Update

WBBA, as part of Enhancement Committee plans, has been discussing seeking designation of Walnut Beach commercial area as an Art District.

  • Holiday Party

Susan Patrick requested a budget for production of holiday party invitations and mailing. $100 was designated for this purpose.

  • Naugatuck Ave. Extension

Negotiations are ongoing with the condominium owners at the end of Naugatuck Avenue to allow the WBA to clean up and beautify this area.

  • Beach Shore Village Status Update

Meghan Rabuse and Sean Filkins alerted the WBA to the status of the ongoing foreclosure proceedings against Jonathan Shweky, the developer of Beach Shore Village. Shweky owes the WBA/City of Milford $250,000 for the beautification and development of the store fronts on Naugatuck Ave. Joe Garbus indicated he would call and meet with City Attorney Win Smith to insure these obligations were not eliminated in the foreclosure proceedings and would be assumed by any subsequent developer.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:07PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Meghan Rabuse
Secretary, Walnut Beach Association
